MAPS
The collection consists mostly of Australian maps with a strong
geological emphasis. Maps are filed within their country or region.
Australian maps are further divided by state or territory, map type,
and scale. They are filed in alphabetical order within each drawer.
There are duplicate copies of some popular maps. Australian map
indexes are held in the top green drawer to your left under the
windows as you come in the door. Other index maps are displayed
on the walls
Some maps are old and/or extremely fragile. Please take care with
them all.
If you can't find what you need in our collection, try The University of Melbourne Library's Map Collection, which is one of the largest such collections in Australia. The Map Collection is located on level 4 of the Education Resource Centre (ERC) Library - campus map (Melway 571 J12, building 171. Procedure for Borrowing a Map from the Earth Sciences Map Room
Either enter the details on the white board or fill in a Map Loan Slip, located on the top of the green drawers.
If the map is labelled with a copy number please fill this in on
the slip. On return the map must be placed in the green
Map Returns drawer. A staff member will be regularly returning
each map to its correct place and removing loan details from the
record.
Maps may be borrowed for up to FOUR WEEKS. If you need a
map for longer than that, you must make some other arrangement e.g.
if a student, talk to your supervisor about buying your own copy.
The map might then be laminated free of charge if you undertake
to donate it to the Map Room collection when your project is finished.
