Some examples of images produced using Iolite

Zircon megacryst

The first two images show reflected light and optical luminescence images, respectively while the latter two panels provide examples of elemental distributions. The image was constructed from 168 parallel traverses using a 13 micron spot size and 10Hz repetition rate.

Ancient speleothem

Several elemental maps produced near the core of an ancient speleothem sample showing element mobility along cracks and some primary growth (climate)-related variations. 93 rows, 90 micron spot, 5Hz.

Barramundi otolith

Sr isotope variation in a diadramous fish showing growth in both marine and freshwater environments.
