Master of Environmental Science

Duration of Course

The Master of Environmental Science must normally be completed within eighteen months full-time enrolment or three years part-time enrolment.

Commencement

The course commences in either Semester One (February) or Semester Two (July), upon approval of the Specialist Coordinator. However, depending on subject offerings, it may not always be possible to commence in Semester Two.

Objective

The Master of Environmental Science aims to provide students with complementary opportunities for subject based learning and a significant independent research project. The program equips graduates with qualitative and quantitative research skills for field-based applications in the Environmental Science sector.

Course Requirements

Students must complete successfully 150 points to be awarded a Master of Environmental Science. A maximum of 100 points earned through the Graduate Diploma will count towards the Masters.

Students should consult the Faculty of Science Postgraduate Prospectus for information regarding the required passmark for each subject.

Of the 150 points

A maximum of 125 points can be credited from the successful completion of course work. Students must complete 3 to 4 core subjects (up to 50 points) and a balance of electives, as approved by the Specialisation Coordinator. A minimum of 25 points and a maximum of 50 points can be credited for the successful completion of an original research project. In cases where the first 100 points of a 150 point Masters is a Graduate Diploma, if a student has taken out the Diploma award, she/he is required to complete a further 100 points to take out the Masters award.
