Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences

The Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Group at the School of Earth Sciences is a involved in a wide range of research and teaching interests.

Our academics are renowned internationally for their research into:

  • meteorology
  • climate variability and climate change
  • atmospheric circulation
  • tropical cyclones
  • mesoscale dynamics
  • cloud processes
  • oceanography
  • synoptic climatology
  • palaeoclimatology
  • atmospheric chemistry

Our members have been involved in key research activities such as the preparation of the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report and wide-ranging Australian Research Council and ARC linkage projects. We have also offered key scientific advice to Government. Our members have been recognised with an ARC Centre of Excellence in Climate System Science.

Our group also contains recipients of many prestigious fellowships, including an ARC Federation Fellowship, an ARC Professorial Fellowship, an ARC Future Fellowship and an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship.

We maintain strong links to many external professional organisations and welcome further opportunities for research and industry collaboration.
