PhD Studies starting in 2008

Thank you for your interest in studying a PhD within the School of Earth Sciences at The University of Melbourne. For students commencing in 2008, we are offering a wide range of PhD projects in the fields of Geology and Meteorology. See link below for examples of possible project topics.

There is also the possibility of designing a project topic compatible with your research interests. This would be done in consultation with a member of our academic staff. Staff profiles and their research interests can be found here.

Eligibility: Applicants are normally required to have completed a four-year honours degree (or equivalent) with a result of at least H2A in Geology, Meteorology, or a related discipline (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science).


The application process

The application process detailed below is relevant for Australian or New Zealand Citizens, and Australian Permanent Residents only. International Students should seek information here. The application process consists of two important steps:

1. Find a project and supervisor

Contact the School's postgraduate coordinator (contact details below) who will discuss your application with you, and direct you towards potential supervisors. Once we have identified a possible supervisor and project for you, you are ready to move to step 2.


2. Apply for a scholarship and PhD admission

Applications for available scholarships should be made through the SCHOLS website:

The closing date for scholarship applications is October 31, 2007.

The School of Earth Sciences :
