Australia-New Zealand Challenge
The Australia-New Zealand Challenge has been staged
since 1971. Initially it was contested by only one
team, open men. It is now a competition for all age
classes from M/W16 upwards.
The Challenge was initially staged annually, but is
now contested twice every three years.
There was an individual event only in the early
years. A relay was introduced in 1977 (but was
abandoned mid-race that year).
In some years, events have coincided with national
or Asia-Pacific championships.
