Australian Orienteering Championships
This page is devoted to the results of the Australian
Orienteering Championships from 1971 to the present.
Age classes are described according to the current
method, rather than as they were billed at the time
(for example, M20 rather than M19). In earlier years classes
were sometimes billed as 'Under' or 'Over' a certain age,
with age being determined on the day. These have been described
using the class which most closely corresponds under the present
structure (e.g. M/W18 for Under 19). This may differ from some
other sources.
Elite classes have been run in M/W21 in 1980 and every year from
1984 onwards. They were run in M/W17-20 for the first time in 2005.
No elite class has ever been run in any other age
group. In earlier years the open womens' class was sometimes
billed as 'W19' with no junior classes above W18. These classes
are listed in these results as W21.
There is some dispute as to whether the 1971 event was officially
an Australian championship. I have included it in these pages in
any case.
