The complex granite terrain saw numerous errors made and the winning margins were larger than might be expected for races of this type, the most dramatic example being Nicki Taws' eight-minute win on Sunday. Taws and Emily Viner split the top two places between them on both days, in a field weakened somewhat by the absence of three top-six finishers at Easter (Natasha Rowe, Mary Fien and Jo Allison). Jock Davis was also commanding on Sunday amongst the men, as Rob Walter had been on Saturday; Eric Morris did his selection chances no harm by heading close contests for second on both days.
A shadow was cast over the event by a serious injury to Bruce Arthur, hitherto enjoying his best season at elite level, who broke his kneecap in four places after a fall on the way to the first control on Saturday. He had surgery on Sunday morning but there are, at present, no reports as to his prospects for recovery.
